Eulett Center

Eulett Center is the preserve’s newest addition, opened in May 2008. It houses both Cincinnati Museum Center and The Nature Conservancy’s staff, lab and overnight space for visiting researchers and the popular Eulett Center After Hours Series.

Spring 2018 Eulett Center After Hours Series

Join the Edge of Appalachia Preserve for free public talks about interesting things in Adams County. Don’t go right home after work! Grab a friend and come to the museum’s Eulett Center to enjoy an hour of something new.

For more information, contact Preserve Director Chris Bedel at (937) 544-2880 ext. 11 or cbedel@cincymuseum.org. Or, just show up the day of the event at Eulett Center, 4274 Waggoner Riffle Road, West Union, Ohio 45693. No registration necessary.

The Iron Furnaces of Adams County

with John Wickerham, Adams County Historical Society
Thursday, April 12, 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

In the early 1800s Adams County had three iron furnaces that smelted the iron ore found in local rocks to make “pig iron.” These furnaces provided much-needed jobs and products for early settlers in the county. The furnaces also had a major influence on the surrounding forests, as countless acres of trees were cut to make charcoal to fire the furnaces. Learn more about this fascinating industry with respected local history authority John Wickerham.

Wood Warblers

with Jon Dunn, Author, Birder & Tour Leader
Friday, May 11, 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Join Jon Dunn, nationally respected birder and co-author of the Peterson Field Guide Series A Field Guide to Warblers of North America for a talk about his favorite subject — wood warblers. Wood warblers are the most beautiful of all Ohio bird families and early May is peak time for the species, which both pass through and breed in the county. Jon will share his deep knowledge of these birds, how-tos for seeing them and sign copies of his National Geographic Society Field Guide to Birds of North America, available for purchase at the event.

A Force for Nature: Lucy Braun

with Meg Hanrahan, Filmmaker
Thursday, May 24, 5:15 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.

Meg Hanrahan, in partnership with Voyageur Media Productions, recently released the film A Force for Nature: Lucy Braun about renowned Cincinnati ecologist E. Lucy Braun (1889-1971). The film explores E. Lucy’s life and work in and beyond Adams County, from childhood to famed woman scientist and preservationist. Do not miss this one time showing and Q&A with the film’s producer/director, Meg Hanrahan.
