Eulett Center is the preserve’s newest addition, opened in May 2008. It houses both Cincinnati Museum Center and The Nature Conservancy’s staff, lab and overnight space for visiting researchers and the popular Eulett Center After Hours Series.

The Iron Furnaces of Adams County

In the early 1800s Adams County had three iron furnaces that smelted the iron ore found in local rocks to make “pig iron.” These furnaces provided much-needed jobs and products for early settlers in the county. The furnaces also had a major influence on the surrounding forests, as countless acres of trees were cut to make charcoal to fire the furnaces. Join Jon Dunn, nationally respected birder and co-author of the Peterson Field Guide Series A Field Guide to Warblers of North America for a talk about his favorite subject — wood warblers. Wood warblers are the most beautiful of all Ohio bird families and early May is peak time for the species, which both pass through and breed in the county. Jon will share his deep knowledge of these birds, how-tos for seeing them and sign copies of his National Geographic Society Field Guide to Birds of North America, available for purchase at the event.
